Urban Fresh is the healthiest vegan restaurant in Tucson, IMHO. Here's their menu but look at the homepage for their weekly specials.

Here's a list of vegan-friendly national pizza chains, generated by VegNews. In a pinch, especially when traveling, these may be your best (or only) options:

Vegan-Friendly Eats

I plan to start posting the names of vegan-friendly restaurants in Tucson, to make it easier to go out to eat. I will rate them (soon) as to how vegan-friendly (or not) that they are. I'll post some links here but, eventually, I will have a comprehensive easy-to-access list for you.

These are in no particular order but they are places that offer a vegan menu separate from their regular menu. Why does that matter? Because some people won't eat at a 'vegan' establishment. (Yes, this is an issue...trust me.) However, if they see a regular menu, they are less stressed dining with the vegans:
  1. The Blacktop Grill has regular Mexican food and a vegan menu.
  2. Pita Jungle serves great Mediterranean meals and I think their vegan menu is tastier then the regular one. (Try the Wood-Fired Caramelized Cauliflower with Tahini).
  3. Del Cielo Tamal is a Tucson secret. Their online vegan menu does NOT show all the great choices. For example, the menu includes a vegan ceviche - hooray for creativity! And try their vegan breakfast buffet on Thursday mornings. Here's my pics of the menu from a May 2024 visit.

Tostadas save the day

When I truly want to throw a meal together (and if there are non-vegans joining us), I serve tostadas because people can create their own and, if I'm short on time, I can buy all the ingredients pre-made. I try to use products with no preservatives and additives.
  • Tostada shells
  • Refried beans-I prefer black beans
  • Salsa-I prefer fresh
  • Shredded cabbage, cilantro, onion
  • Guacamole
  • Optional: Vegan shredded cheese or frozen 'ground beef' but these usually have too much oil (High calorie and lots of saturated fat), too little fiber, and very few nutrients.
  • Side dish: Corn on the cob, cabbage salad, calabacitas, or even rice.
